Our Classes in the Arts

After School Classes

The Cultural Arts Center is proud to offer a variety of classes for youth grades 2-8 in the Wiregrass Area in the Arts. Classes are designed to help each student explore a variety of artistic disciplines once a week as part of a well rounded program of after school activities for your child. Each class is taught by professonal level instructors and designed with FUN as the center of their activities. Class sizes are limited to provide each student one-on-one time with the teacher. All materials for each class will be provided at no extra cost to the parent.

Classes are $10 a month
Cultural Arts Center members can enroll for no charge
Scholarships available, inquire at registration

Dance Classes

Come learn the latest in Hip Hop and Ballet dance steps from the instructors of SEADAC (Tiffany Swan) and Patti Rutland Jazz Co (Vince Johnson, Tara Adkins, and Santa). Learn how to perform these moves and show off for your friends and family. Performances throughout the year!

Youth Honor Choir

This honor choir is limited to 3rd-5th grade students who have previous chorus experience This group will perform a variety of musical selections at various functions throughout the city and at the Cultural Arts Center. Enrollment by audition only. Performance shirts will be provided free of charge by the Cultural Arts Center. Kerrie Reed will be the Choir Director.

AUDITIONS ARE TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2007, 3:30-4:30 PM AT THE CULTURAL ARTS CENTER.
Rehearsals will be EVERY THURSDAY, 3:30-4:30 at the Cultural Arts Center.

Piano Lessons

Come learn the basics of piano and impress your friends. Learn the keyboard, musical notes, and finger positions all while learning to play a variety of new and upbeat music. Recitals and performances will be held throughout the year! Meg Collande, Instructor

Art Instruction

Come explore the world of art through YOUR eyes! Learn how to draw, shade, paint like the masters, even use your hands to create wonderful pieces of original art. Make your colors pop and come alive by using the color wheel. Get your art work ready for real live art shows as you develop your “artistic eye”.

Stringed Instrument Class

The Wiregrass Strings class is for the 4th-10th grade student who has always wanted to learn to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass. The ability to read music is needed. The season consists of two 14 week semesters. These students will become a part of the Wiregrass Youth Symphony and will play at many functions and events. Let your fingers learn a new tune through the Wiregrass Strings Program. Alex Zacharis, Conductor

Rehearsals/Classes are Saturdays, 9:45-11:45. Cost is $160 per
Semester excluding instruments.

Art Classes Offered

Saturday Life Drawing: This class meets the third Saturday of each month from 9:00am-12:00pm. All artists are welcome. Bring your own artist supplies. Cost of the model is divided among participants, usually less than $5.00 each.

Wednesday Art Group: Under the direction of Bill Carter, this class meets weekly on Wednesdays from 9:00am-12:00pm. Artists from all media are welcome. The cost is $30.00 per month.


Music Classes Offered

The Tri-State Community Orchestra offers the Wiregrass Strings and the Wiregrass Youth Symphony Orchestra programs. Call Eugene Connor at 794-5096 for more information.

Wiregrass Strings is open to anyone between the ages of 9 and 16. NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Students will be learning to play the violin, viola, cello or bass. This group meets on Saturday mornings from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at The Center. 16-week semesters begin in August and January and the cost is $160 for the semester.

Wiregrass Youth Symphony Orchestra is for students between the ages of 7 and 19. At least one year of experience playing a stringed instrument is required. Rehearsal for the WYSO will be on Saturday mornings from 10:45am to 12:00pm. 16-week semesters begin in August and January and the cost is $160 for the semester. Two performances will be given each semester. Music selections will include things from Bach to rock.

The Cultural Arts Center Beginning Piano Classes have grown from one class to three full classes. New classes are beginning. Please call for new dates and times. Cost is $10 donations and Scholarships are available.

Intermediate Ballroom

Once you've mastered beginning ballroom, youre ready for this class. Learn more combinations and turns. Instructor: Ray Aly

Tap I/II
You'll learn basic moves and then begin to combine them for easy and fun dances.
Instructor: Marilee Dalbey

Hip Hop
An introduction to hip-hop movement, this class includes a warm-up and stretch. A great way to get an excellent workout and have fun!
Instructor: Vincent Johnson

Tappercise
Make noise while you get a great cardio workout! Tap moves are combined and repeated, while building intensity. Tap sneakers are recommended.
Instructor: Marilee Dalbey

 

Body Sculpt
Bring your hand weights and mat to this class to tone and sculpt your body, while getting a great cardio workout. Concludes with a great total body stretch.
