About Us

The Cultural Arts Center is a non-profit organization established in May 2002 to connect the Arts to our Community. Housed in the old Southside Elementary School, the Center has been renovated to accommodate various arts organizations in the Wiregrass, providing a venue for talented artists to gather and perform, and a home for providing exposure to the arts to underserved children and seniors. These organizations through their performances, classes, and workshops help to enrich the lives of the citizens of Dothan and the surrounding communities.

The Center is home to the Southeast Alabama Community Theatre,  the Tri-State Community Orchestra, Dothan Wiregrass Art League, Providence Christian School Drama and Choral departments, Spark Theater Company and the SAFE Program.

The Center is funded through generous contributions of individuals and businesses in the community (43%), fundraising events (16%), Rental Revenue (27%) and through some earmarked funding by the City of Dothan (14%). Direct services to underserved children and seniors are provided by grants from a variety of sources such as the Alabama State Arts Council, Wells Fargo, Southeast Alabama Community Foundation, and others and are marked to provide after school and summer camps, workshops and classes in the arts at beginner levels.  The Center has enriched more than 2,500 children to many different arts disciplines, and has partnered with the Dothan City School system in a variety of ways to bring the arts into academics during the school day.

The Center is also available on a very limited basis as a rental site for a variety of special events, receptions, and business events.  The Center is equipped to provide our rental clients with audiovisual capabilities as well as Wi-Fi for their events and receptions. The auditorium and banquet hall provides spacious areas for any special occasion at a reasonable price.
